Coming from a small village in France, Fuente del Gallo at Conil de la Frontera is certainly the best place that corresponds to what we were looking for. It is quiet, close to the beach, covered with palm trees and a good well-located starting point to explore Costa de la Luz. Conil de la Frontera is a small town with human-sized buildings, a small port build along a small river and a lot of activities are available. There are many small shops of all kinds and also a few super markets. Lots of restaurants provide all kinds of food and youngsters can enjoy sports and nightlife Apart from the historic center, traffic and parking are easy . In Conil de la Frontera, one can walk along the beaches endlessly.

Conil de la Frontera

Conil de la Frontera is a former fishing village, which has become a popular, low-rise resort. It has good beaches and the streets still have a village feel to them. 

The authentic Spanish fishing town of Conil de la Frontera has approximately 16,000 inhabitants and is situated in the province of Cadiz,
in the autonomous community of Andalusia.

Natural surroundings
Conil de la Frontera and its surrounding landscape
is very diverse, with its beautiful coastline, old town features, undeveloped open countryside which reach to forests and villages dotted here and there. 

Beaches
The area boasts 16 kilometres of long sandy beaches stretched out along the coastline; long, flat beaches with white sands, small sections of beach with cliffs behind them, and small intimate coves for nude bathing at Cala de Aceite. A popular beach is that of Playa de El Palmar, a few
kilometers to the south of Conil de la Frontera. Nearby you can also visit the wonderful beaches of Los Caños de Meca, Barbates and Zahara de los Atunes.

Cuisine
There are heaps of good restaurants in Conil de la Frontera, with lots of good tapas bars, seafood restaurants, pizza and Chinese choices. Typical dishes from the area include Atun Encebollada (tuna cooked with onions) and Chocos con Patatas (cuttlefish with potatoes).

Climate
The mild all-year-round climate makes Conil de la Frontera a popular tourist destination. The region has little rain and more than 3,000 hours of sun a year.

It is said that Andalusia is the hottest place in Europe with more than 3000 hours of sunshine. To visit Costa de la Luz, one might need a car. There are plenty of places where cars can be rented. One thing that stoke us in Costa de la Luz is the great variety of places and endless sand beaches. Conil de la Frontera is a small traditional town, whereas Sancti Petri is a modern tourist place. Cadiz is a city presenting a mixture of modern and traditional architecture famous for its nightlife.There are also the white villages with Vejer de La Frontera, Ronda, Medina de Sidonia, and Archos de la Frontera coming first. I would advise to always park your car outside of the historic center if you want to avoid the difficulties of narrow streets with cars parked all over the place and difficulties to move around. A little walk is strongly recommended. Jerez de la Frontera is the Andalusian capital of wine and brandy. It is also famous for its Flamenco music and its bullfightings. Chiclana is famous for its weekly market. From Tarifa, the surf capital, one can make a daily excursion to Morocco and try to watch whales from a boat. Inside land, Ubrique is a leather center. Grazalema is an excursion starting point and a place to find honey. That gives an overlook of places to visit in Costa de la Luz but they are plenty of other places that would merit to be explored. A good guide is recommended.

Ville trés charmante, calme et ombragée par les pins parasol. Bord de mer encore sauvage car les construction s'intégrent dans le paysage. Plages superbes, larges et alimentées en eau douce.


Commentaires sur Costa de la Luz

La cote, protégée des contructions massives et désastreuses de grandes hauteurs, garde un aspect sauvage et nature. Les plages sont trés larges et bien amémagées. Le rapport qualité/prix du coût de la vie est trés favorable pour bien vivre sans se priver.

Commentaire sur Conil de la Frontera

Petite ville littorale et très touristique l'été mais pleine de charme encore : on peut y faire des courses au marché couvert local, dans son petit supermarché à recommander "chez Paquita"; on peut manger dans ces bars locaux, fréquentés par les habitants car bons marchés. Le village est très bien situé pour faire des trajets "en étoile" entre Gibraltar, Cadiz, Séville, les villages blancs et les divers parcs nationaux.

Très belle côte parmi la plus belle d'Andalousie selon moi car peu urbanisée; c'est aussi l'océan Atlantique avec ce que cela implique : marées, bonnes températures mais aussi un état des eaux de bien meilleure qualité que côté méditéranéen (pas de méduses, peu de déchets stagnants dans l'eau...). Mais là c'est une question de goût.
