Santa Cristina d’Aro

The charming town of Santa Cristina d’Aro is situated in the Aro Valley on the Costa Brava in the Catalonian province of Girona. The French border is just 92 kilometres from the town and Barcelona 99 kilometres.

Boasting a privileged location, Santa Cristina d’Aro is situated just six kilometres inland from the beautiful coastline and beaches of the S’Agaro and Platja d’Aro. The region is also an excellent destination for walking and hiking holidays.

About town
Santa Cristina d’Aro is a traditinal town with many interesting cultural and historic attractions. Of special interest is the tourist office itself, which is located in the former Carrilet station. The Carrilet was a mini gauge train that joined the local region to the city of Girona.

There are ample amenities in town for holidaymakers, with a supermarket, shops and several bars and restaurants. For further options you can head to the larger coastal towns, which are situated close by.

Places to visit

There are several interesting archaeological sites and caves in the local region, some dating back to the Neolithic age. Cultural monuments include the ruins of the Solius Castle, Solius Cistercian Monastery and the Sant Martí de Romanyà Church, which pre-dates the Roman era.

Beaches

The local coastline with its typical Catalonian resorts is a delight to visit. It’s one of the prettiest spots on the Costa Brava. To reach the pretty bays and coves visitors should head to Sant Feliu de Guixols and from there head to Cala (Bay) Canyet, which is the beach to head to if you want to partake in water sports.

Further along is the Bay Senyor Ramon, where you will find showers and a kiosk and the unspoilt Bay Vallpresona is reached on foot, and here you will find nothing but a beautiful beach and crystal clear waters, so take a pack lunch and plenty of water!

Active Tourism
If you are seeking a destination from which you can head off into the great outdoors and partake in some outdoor activities then Santa Cristina d’Aro is an excellent choice. The town is surrounding by mountains, beautiful countryside and a stunning coastline. From the town you can head off along local natural routes by bike, horse or foot.

Local gastronomy
Santa Cristina d’Aro is well known for its delicious gastronomy; utilising the excellent local produce from both sea and land, the town delivers some excellent and unique dishes. The town is famous for its wild mushrooms, which are harvested through October and November.
