3 beds with 3 en-suite bathrooms.

The house overlooks the Mediterranean and has direct access to the sea from the terrace..

Swimming pool also overlooks the sea..

Casa Shalimar is situated on the edge of the village of La Herradura on the Costa Tropical, which is the warmest part of southern Spain.

It is 70 km east of Malaga, in the province of Granada.

Parking is at the top of a long stairway down to the house.

Open the front door and you are greeted with the feeling of being on a boat as all you can see is the Mediterranean. Change into your swimsuit and jump from the rocks or the steps into the sea.

Snorkel and dive in the clear sea. It's claimed that Spanish galleons sank close by during the Armada and many divers search the seabed for gold coins.

THE HOUSE.....

The house is perfect as an artists/writers retreat.

Casa Shalimar is decorated in an eclectic, shabby-chic style and has been designed to be a comfortable home, not a show home...

The house sleeps 6 people plus one on the fold-up bed.

As you enter the house there is a very large open plan sitting room/ dining room that leads to the kitchen.

KITCHEN/BREAKFAST ROOM

Has a table and chairs to eat round, although you will probably prefer to eat outside overlooking the sea.

Stainless steel 6 ringed range. Electric.. No gas bottles to carry up and down the stairs.

Toaster. coffee machine .sandwich maker, kettle etc.

Fully equipped with nice earthenware dishes.

Washing machine..dryer..(but always nicer to hang in the sea air).

There is a Moroccan day bed and top bunk, equipped with curtains to draw and its own lights, great fun for kids to sleep in. Outside the kitchen is a small terrace with table/chairs.. There is a washing line and pegs for your use.

Also there are steps to the roof for private sunbathing and glorious views of the sea and fabulous sunsets..

SITTING ROOM

Separate loo./cloakroom.

L shaped sofa, armchair that snakes round the working fireplace/wood burning stove..

The TV has basic cable coverage only.

There is an ipod dock for your music.

Cd player.

We have many DVDs that you are welcome to watch.

There is a pool table in the sitting room.

We have masses of logs that you can help yourself to..

BEDROOMS

3 bedrooms 3 en suite bathrooms. All newly decorated..

Master bedroom. 1 king size bed. Wardrobe. TV with basic cable in bedroom.

Bath. Separate shower. Antique marble sinks ..Loo, hot water tank..

Bedroom 2.. 1 double bed, wardrobe. Chest of drawers

En-suite shower room with lovely shower with huge head. loo, marble square basin, hot water tank.

Bedroom 3 2 large singles, wardrobe, chest of drawers..

En-suite bath.. separate open shower and basin.

There is also a fold up bed.

OUTSIDE SPACE

All of the outside area is ideal for boat/diver watching and it is possible during the summer to have friends moor their boats in front of the house.

Many dolphins have been seen gliding across the bay.

The sunsets are spectacular.

You can rent a pedalo and take it to the bay in front of house and have a fun-filled afternoon splashing around before peddling it back to the village where you can enjoy an ice cream or a beer at one of the many beach bars in the village..

Terrace.. has built in Moroccan L-shaped bench. Filled with comfy cushions.

The huge outside table is ideal for entertaining.

There are 3 sun loungers on this level..

You then walk down some steps to the newly furbished swimming pool.

It has a plateau area with a waterfall to sit in and is surrounded with rocks and plants and the end of the pool has an infinity section..

This level has 3 sunloungers.

The other terrace has a hammock and a barbeque and just beyond are the steps to the sea.

The house is in an extraordinary location but as it is on the rocks on the edge of the sea it is quite rugged and there are no railings built into the rock. There are also lots of steps down to the house from the car park, which gives it a feeling of complete privacy. Babies plus children over 5 are welcome but toddlers may be a problem because of the steep drops.

There is no air-conditioning because constant sea breezes keep the interior of the house cool but there are fans in each bedroom.

In the winter there are plug in oil heaters and an open fire in the sitting room.

There is also wireless internet..

We will supply a selection of towels and sheets etc.

Village has many bars and restaurants, which are all within walking distance of the house..

The best thing about the village is being able to stroll down and buy all the produce totally fresh from the market. We will leave olive oil etc, which you are welcome to use. Just replace if you use it all up.

You are welcome to read the books on the shelves ,some of which have been written here in the house by the owner, who is a best selling author. Borrow the sea shoes(advisable when jumping from rocks) and any lillo, goggles etc.

The cleaner will come in before you arrive and when you leave..

If you require a cleaner during your stay, this can be arranged and you can pay them separately..

We will leave you a folder of possible babysitters. There is also a personal chef if you require. Plus lists of taxis, restaurants. etc.

We have a gardener and a poolman, so you do not have to worry about watering plants etc..

The is a food market in the centre of the village. Fish, meat, fruit etc.

There are 2 bakeries where all the bread is freshly baked and often hot from the oven..

There are many small supermarkets as well.

A local market in the square on Friday for clothes etc..

There are plenty of gift shops as well,

After shopping you can enjoy a coffee or delicious meal on the sea..

The parking has changed in the village and it is now pay and display, which is why our house is so perfect because you can walk to and from the village..

There is diving, windsurfing. pedalo, fishing. You can rent a sailing or motor boat in the village or from the Marina Del Este just five minutes drive from the house. There are also plenty of dive schools.

Local town Almunecar is 10 mins drive away and has a large gift market on Tuesdays.

Many restaurants bars etc. The centre is lovely with sherry bars and gamon on bread..

Granada is one hour away, with spectacular views.

Gypsy quarter . wide range of shops and restaurants..

Also one of the wonders of the world - Alhambra Palace:

It is best to book in advance - usually for the afternoon booking (after 2 pm) check this website - you can only buy 5 tickets per credit card.

Airports:

You can go hiking or skiing in the Sierra Nevada mountains, again just one hour from the village..

This area offers a fantastic combination of skiing in the mountains and sunbathing by the sea.
