The climate is sub tropical, sheltered from the northern winds by the Sierra Nevada and close to the coast of Africa. This enables the growing of exotic fruits such as avocados, bananas, mangos and custard apples as well as the citrus fruit family and only place in Europe where Sugar Cane is grown.
The area is predominantly agricultural and unspoiled by tourism and the people, friendly. A few words of Spanish learned go a long way.
Eating out, there is an amazing number and variety of local restaurants and bars to enjoy. This is the only area now in Spain where the local bars still give a free Tapa (a bite of food) to be enjoyed when buying a beer or a similar drink.
If your choice is for sight seeing then the famouse Alhambra Palaces and Gardens of the Generalife in Granada, just an hour away, must not be missed.
The impressive caves at Nerja
Almunecar with it`s Roman history, Tropical Bird Park, Aqua Park, large Friday Market & The Sunday Flea Market is
just a twenty minute drive along the coast.
Motril is located on the south coast of Granada Province(the Costa Tropical - as yet unspoilt by mass tourism) midway between Malaga and Almeria and approximately a 90 minute drive from each airport. Granada airport is a 60 min scenic drive due north of Motril through some stunningly lovely countryside and sierra views.
Drive up to the Alpujarras and visit the whitewashed villages in the area made famous by Chris Stewart in his book `Driving over Lemons`.
Closer at home, The American Park, The Sugar Museum, Tuesday & Friday Markets and the Indoor Municipal Market in Motril.
Marina & Yacht club at the Port of Motril.
Not forgetting `Sol y Nieve` for skiing and surf boarding from November to April. It`s possible to ski in the morning and be basking on the beach in the sun in the afternoon.

Two bedrooms are in the house. The In-house double bedroom has a Queen size double bed and the Twin room has an extra child's bed if needed.
The third bedroom is in the Poolside en-suite set in the garden overlooking the pool and has a large double bed and a large walk in shower.
The bedrooms have wooden shutters and fly screens, cool tiled floors and ceiling fans for summer comfort.
In the cooler seaon the log stove, radiators if required and warm duvets keep the villa cosy.
Outside dining terrace furnished for 8 guests. BBQ.
