The terrace provides superb sea and castle views by day and even better in the evening! To the rear of the terrace is a small garden area with a Nispero tree which provides a little dappled shade so that you can settle down for a lazy afternoon with a good book, but only have to raise your eyes for a sea view.
Just 5 mins drive to the beautiful clean sandy beaches of Peniscola. The South Beach is smaller, curved, and very shallow - ideal for children - lined with pavement cafes and restaurants – continue a little further towards the mountains (another 5 mins drive) are lots of pebbled coves similar to the English Cornish coastline.
The port and castle are situated between the 2 beaches. Take a wander around the cobbled streets of the old-town or go to the post when the fishing boats are coming in to buy fresh fish and seafood for the BBQ.
The North Beach has a very long (approx 3-4km) attractive tree lined promenade and all usual beach facilities, watersports and restaurants etc.
The property comprises: Master bedroom with twin beds, lounge/diner with american style kitchen (with a double sofabed), and bathroom with a full sized bath and shower above.
The apartment is accessed from road level (there is a private parking space for the apartment), and is situated on the pretty Las Atalayas urbanisation overlooking the sea and the castle/old town. A car is recommended, alternatively it is 20 mins stroll into town and there is the tourist train which stops nearby or in July / August there is a bus to and from town several times per day.
There are 3 public swimming pools nearby, the nearest being at the Brasseria Las Atalayas which you can see from the terrace, this is a very nice restaurant and bar, they charge 1 euro per day to use the pool and have live entertainment some evenings, there is also a childrens playground and a tennis court. Or just continue down into town for a wide range of restaurants, bars and the very attractive promenade.
HOW TO GET HERE
The nearest airport is Reus (to the North) - very easy for car hire and approx 1 hr 10 mins drive. Valencia is the next nearest (to the South) - also very easy airport and approx 1 hour 20 mins drive. Or use Barcelona airport - approx 1 hour 40 mins drive.
Whichever airport just get onto the Autopista A7/E15 and get off at the Peniscola exit (no. 43) and it's less than 10 mins into town and the apartment.
THINGS TO DO?
To the north - 10 mins drive to BENICARLO and 20 mins to VINAROS, both working towns with beaches and ports or marinas, well worth visiting.
To the south ALCOSSEBRE, a pretty tourist resort with a marina and lovely beaches.
CASTELLON and TARRAGONA are the nearest large towns and both are worth a visit.
40 mins drive north is the DELTA del EBRO - superb almost deserted sandy beaches, rice fields, flamingos, a birdwatchers paradise and lots and lots of fishing.
Or head inland to the orange and olive groves, maybe CERVERA DEL MAESTRE, SAN MATEO, COVES del VINROMA and lots more traditional villages for lunch and a wander round.
GOLF Panoramica - a very prestigious resort designed by Bernhard Langher (I know I have spelt this wrong)! is approx 40 mins drive, situated inland in the orange groves, a lovely drive.
Nearest SKI-ING is Teruel - 2 hours drive.
If you wish to improve your SPANISH on a more formal basis whilst practicing with the locals, I can arrange for private tuition - just ask.
Large supermarkets - Consum in the centre of town, Mercadona 5-6 mins drive, Eroski and the commercial centre with cinema, bowling and shops approx 10 mins drive, Carrefour 20 mins drive. Smaller shops - butchers, bakers, newsagents in the town centre.
Lots to see and do, fiestas galore - from the celebration of the artichoke or the prawn, to the full 2 week Moors and Christians festival in September.
Everyone falls in love with Peniscola, come and see .....
