Lovely Apartment in La Herradura: a great place to sit and relax over a coffee, watching the people go by, enjoying the sea views.
The apartment is on the sixth floor of Edificio La Caleta, a very well maintained building, accessible by lift. The balcony offers a beautiful view not only of the sea, but of the western headlands.
La Herradura means horseshoe, so named because of the shape of the bay. This delightful bay offers a typically Spanish experience, remaining unspoilt despite the rapid development going on in the Costa Tropical. The apartment is situated in a central location within La Herradura, providing easy access to shopping, bars and restaurants. There are small supermarkets, banks, a newsagent selling international newspapers, and a daily market. All within a short walking distance. Although there is a significant international population in La Herradura it continues to resist the commercial excesses of similar areas on the Meditteranean coast. You have a good choice of restaurants and traditional Spanish bars. Above all, La Herradura is a place where you can sit and relax over a coffee, watching the people go by, enjoying the view. It is not the place to be for those seeking a wild nightlife!
La Herradura is an ideal centre from which to explore the cultural history of Spain, being less than an hour from the historic city of Granada (and the Alhambra) and the skiing facilities in the Sierra Nevada National Park. Even closer are the Alpujarras, a peaceful haven and the last bastion of the Moors. If you want to get away from the peace and quiet you can go over to effervescent Almunecar, with its myriad of winding streets and tapas bars. To the west lies the tourist town of Nerja, with pleasant beaches and numerous restaurants and bars.
The area has a wonderful climate with average temperatures of around 18 degrees C in winter and 28 degrees C in summer. Exotic fruits like avocados, mangos, chirimoyas, kiwis, papaya, sugar cane, grapes, olives, oranges, lemons, cumquat and bananas grow well here.
There is a scuba diving centre in La Herradura, with others in Nerja and Almunecar. Activities available here include water sports, horse riding, tennis, sailing, and hang gliding. Situated around the eastern edge of La Herradura, is the up-market Marina del Este with its sailing boats and restaurants, well worth a visit. There are three golf courses in the area, including the 18 hole course at the Camp De Golf at Salobrena. Green fees there are around 40 Euros.
